Daniel Altschuler, L.Ac. received his Chinese medicine training in Taiwan during the 1990’s through an apprenticeship with Dr. Lee Chen-Yu. He has extensive experience treating patients with chronic debilitating diseases, pain, cancer, and neurological conditions.

At our school, Daniel teaches classes on fundamental theory, herbal medicine, medical history, and medical Chinese language.

During the year, he can be found supervising students on acupuncture and herbal medicine shifts, or serving as a preceptor in the faculty clinic or in the telehealth clinic.

Dan Bensky, D.O.

Dan Bensky, D.O., is a graduate of the Macau Institute of Chinese Medicine (1975), the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (1982), and the University of Washington (M.A. in Chinese Literature,1996). Dan has translated and edited several texts on East Asian medicine including Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica and Chinese Herbal Medicine: Formulas and Strategies. Dan is one of the founders of SIEAM. Dan teaches palpation and acupuncture techniques at SIEAM.

Josh Lerner, M.T.C.M., L.Ac.

Josh Lerner, M.T.C.M., L.Ac. received a M.A. in Japanese Literature from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1994, and then graduated from the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2001. A devoted martial artist since 1983, he also spent many years doing advanced study of tuina and orthopedic medicine with Tom Bisio and Frank Butler, as well as studying and teaching trigger point theory. In addition, he is certified in Matt Callison’s Sports Medicine Acupuncture system, and he continues to expand his knowledge with a wide variety of continuing education classes in the assessment and treatment of orthopedic conditions.

At our school, Josh teaches tuinaqigong, trigger point theory, trauma medicine, acupuncture point location, anatomy and physiology, and musculoskeletal therapeutics.

During the year, he can be found supervising students on acupuncture and herbal medicine shifts, or tuina bodywork shifts; or serving as a preceptor in the faculty clinic.

Craig Mitchell, L.Ac. graduated from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1993. Craig’s specialties are musculoskeletal conditions and treating complex health concerns with Chinese herbal medicine.

Craig is the President of our school, and during the year he teaches classes on fundamental theory, herbal medicine, and medical Chinese language.

During the year, he can be found supervising students on acupuncture and herbal medicine shifts; or serving as a preceptor in the faculty clinic or in the herbal consultation clinic.

Maria Portnaya, M.Ac.O.M., E.A.M.P.,

Maria Portnaya, M.Ac.O.M., E.A.M.P., received her Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine at the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine in 2009. Since graduating, Maria runs an acupuncture clinic in Pike Place Market and enjoys providing services to a wide population of patients.

During the year, she can be found supervising students on tuina bodywork clinic shifts.

Jen Resnick, L.AC.,

An international champion and nationally-renown martial arts instructor, Jen began her TCM practice in Oakland, CA where she was the Head Instructor of a community martial arts center. There, she combined Chinese medicine theory with the practice of martial arts, qi gong and meditation to investigate the path of somatic healing and empowerment through movement. Her training in Qi Gong and Zheng Gu Tui Na trauma medicine allows her, in turn, to effectively treat sports injuries and musculoskeletal pain. She has since taught Zheng Gu Tui Na at national martial arts conferences, has been a visiting faculty member at Tri-State College of Acupuncture, Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine, PCOM-NY and has taught continuing education courses in New York, California, Montreal and France.

Jen is also a founding member of the Global Alternative Healthcare Project, one of the first organizations to offer TCM-based medical aid internationally. She has led trips to Indonesia, Nepal, Navajo Nation and Jackson WY to offer free, high quality care to communities in need.

Jen’s educational background includes a B.A. in Semiotics from Brown University, MSTOM from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She graduated with a Doctor of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine from Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine. She is nationally certified with the NCCAOM in Chinese herbs and acupuncture, and currently practices at Evolve Health + Wellness in NYC.

Jason Robertson, D.A.H.M., L.Ac.,

Jason Robertson, D.A.H.M., L.Ac., graduated from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2000. Jason’s specialty is in the palpatory assessment of channel pathologies to treat the full range of disorders of health with an emphasis in sports medicine.

During the year, he can be found serving as a preceptor in the faculty clinic.

Andy Russell, DAHM, E.A.M.P.

Andy Russell, DAHM, E.A.M.P., began her Chinese medical education at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2000, and received her Master’s degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine at the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine in 2006. She also received her doctorate in acupuncture and herbal medicine from SIEAM, in integrative oncology. She maintains a busy private practice in West Seattle with a focus on oncology and autoimmune diseases.

Katherine Taromina, DACM., L.Ac.

Katherine Taromina, DACM., L.Ac. graduated Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (NY) in 1998. She has advanced training and clinical experience in East Asian Medicine sports medicine and providing supportive care for cancer patients. Prior to joining SIEAM, Kathy served first as an acupuncturist, then as the Program Manager for the Integrative Therapies Program of Columbia University Medical Center. Kathy is a researcher with an interest in the conducting clinical trials that will expand patients access to East Asian Medicine. She is a student and assistant for Tom Bisio at New York Internal Arts (NYIA) and International Arts International (IAI).

Katherine is the Dean and Clinic Director at our school, and she teaches classes on fundamental theory, herbal medicine, clinical research, clinical skills, and acupuncture point location.

During the year, she can be found supervising students on acupuncture and herbal medicine shifts, or tuina bodywork shifts; or serving as a preceptor in the faculty clinic or in the herbal consultation clinic.

Yun Wang, M.D.(China), L.Ac.

Yun Wang, M.D.(China), L.Ac. supervises student interns treating patients with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. He graduated from the Qingdao Medical College in 1978 and the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 1993. Yun specializes in musculoskeletal disorders, trauma, and the treatment of a range of neurological conditions.

At our school, Yun teaches classes on neurology.

Charis Wolf L.Ac., MSTCM, Dipl. Ac.

Charis Wolf began her journey with herbal remedies as a young child and it became the inspiration that led her to become an Acupuncturist and Herbalist, earning her Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from ACTCM in San Francisco.  She has been practicing for over 15 years; in Washington and some time in California.  Her experience includes biomedical research, a strong background in science, education in Western herbs as well as Chinese herbs which includes essential oil remedies, Medicinal herbal gardening, 10 years of study in Classical Chinese medicine and an eccentric interest in Chinese Astrology.  She also volunteers her time as one of the Board of Directors for the American Society of Acupuncturists and does research at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Charis teaches Integrative Therapeutics and can be found supervising in clinic shifts as well.

Liangxi Zheng, M.T.C.M., L.Ac.

Liangxi Zheng, M.T.C.M., L.Ac. supervises student interns who use acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapies. Liangxi completed his training at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1991. His specialty focus is in scalp acupuncture, which is used for treating stroke, pain, neurological conditions, and trauma.

At our school, Liangxi teaches classes on scalp acupuncture.
